What is a Degloving Injury?

A degloving injury occurs when the skin and soft tissue are completely torn away from the underlying muscles, bones, and connective tissue – essentially peeling off like a glove. It most commonly occurs in motorcycle and industrial accidents, typically affecting limbs or the torso, and often requires extensive reconstructive surgery, skin grafts, and in severe cases may lead to amputation.
